6 months

Not too much has changed since my last monthly post at 5 months....so I'll just highlight a few things and get on with the pictures :)

At their 6 month check up Rowan was 18lbs 5oz and 27inches long, and Norah was 18lbs 1 oz and 27.5 inches.  This puts them both roughly in the 75th percentile for weight and 67th for height.  I haven't mentioned head circumference before, but I was amused when our pediatrician said they are both in the 95th percentile :)

They continue to improve on their sleep habits, still giving us 10-12 hours at night and between 2-4 naps a day.  Most nights, Rowan sleeps all the way through.  They still take 5 bottles a day and I am doing my best to do 3 meals of baby food every day.  Rowan had a tooth pop through this last week and I think Norah is not too far behind with all of the drooling and sucking on her hands she is doing.

Rowan continues to roll over very well and put everything in his mouth, but Norah just isn't interested. Our pediatrician said her exam was fine and that it is just part of her laid back/lazy personality.  So, I do my best to put her on her belly as much as she will tolerate.  We are working hard on sitting up right now.

Things they really like right now include bath time, their jumper, see and say farm sounds toy, being out in the stroller with me shopping or taking walks on the two days this summer it has not been 90 degrees, baby food of the fruit variety, and of course...being held and loved on.

I did have to take Rowan to see a pediatric dermatologist with Children's Memorial about the hemangioma on his chest.  She said we have nothing to worry about and it should eventually go away on its own...hopefully by the age of 5 :)

5 months

Wow, time is flying over here.   I am really enjoying my time off from school and work, and spending all of my days loving on these kids.  Unfortunately, it is so blazing hot outside that we have been stuck indoors much more than we would like.

Rowan has become a much happier kid and quite the charmer in the last month.  Here are some fun facts:
  • Unofficially weighs 18.4 #...chubby :)
  • Is finally sleeping better after we initiated the Ferber Method.  He is going down around 7pm with little fight and has been waking up between 1 & 3am wanting to eat.  We are trying to wean this, so we are currently down to feeding him 3 ounces of formula and then he goes back to the crib.  He wakes up crying on and off for the next few hours but not for more than 10 minutes at a time.  At some point very soon, we will need to give up the night feedings.  Baby steps one at a time...
  • Naps in the crib continue to be a challenge, but I'm giving it my all.  He still naps 4 times a day but would prefer my arms or his bouncy seat.
  • Lost a lot of his hair in the last month but has a lot of blonde hair growing back in.
  • Still takes a 5-6 ounce bottle every 3 hours during the day. We are on a good schedule of 6am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, and 6pm.  LOVES his baby food.  So far the only thing he has been a little unsure about are peas.
  • Finally rolled over from belly to back last week on June 29.  Just today he did back to belly!
  • Is getting very good at putting everything he finds in his mouth.
  • Loves to be held right now, but also really likes his exersaucer.

 And my Norah babe:
  • Unofficially weighs 18.6 #.
  • Is still sleeping like a champ.  My only complaint is that she is consistently waking up every night around 2am happy as a clam, talking up a storm.  I'm sure if we'd let her, she'd eventually fall back to sleep, but right now we just plug her back up with the paci and turn on her music and she will fall back to sleep.  Normally this isn't a big deal but we have her bunking in our bedroom in the pack and play so that Rowan doesn't wake her up if we let him cry it out.  Doug and I have been switching off taking the couch so that we both don't have to listen to him on the monitor at 4am :)  Norah goes down very easily at 6:30pm and sleeps until anywhere between 5 & 7am.
  • Naps like a champ in her crib four times a day.
  • Ditto on the bottles and baby food as Rowan.
  • Has kept all of her dark hair, but is starting to get some blonde highlights.
  • Also rolled over belly to back last week, but beat Rowan by one day.
  • Is much more content to sit in the bouncy seat and watch everyone in the room.  When I put her in the exersaucer she will just stare down her toys.  She isn't too eager yet to really play and try everything out in her mouth like Rowan...other than sucking on her fingers.  Honestly, she just seems kind of lazy. Hopefully she'll figure it out soon.
  • Laughs up a storm when we read the book "The Barnyard Dance" and I make all of the animal sounds.  So far, she really likes the cow, bird, and dog sounds :)
  • Also loves to be held and doesn't like to be left in a room alone.  But, if she is tired she prefers her crib rather than being held for a nap.

And the best part is that they are finally starting to notice eachother.  If one is screaming, the other is usually looking at them like...what are you crying for? The only problem is that if I am not careful and lay them on the floor too close, Rowan will grab her hair or start kicking her in the head :)
